When New Balance first made the decision to revive the 1906, a largely forgotten runner from the late aughts, and retrofit it with the cushioning platform of the 860v2, could anyone have predicted how seminal a moment it’d become? The New Balance 1906R now stands as one of the brand’s most bankable assets, host to some of the most coveted NB collaborations of the decade and a daily sight for anyone in a major metro market.
Now three years into the model’s renewed run, despite sifting through dozens of general release colorways on a yearly basis, it’s hard to say that Boston creatives have explored everything that the model is capable of. Metallic, techy looks still make up the bulk of what we’ll catch on the newswire, casting pairs like the black and blue at hand as exceptions. While the jet black and rich brown foundation of the shoe pairs complementary shades, the pale blue accents that creep in at the quarter, midsole, heel counter, and heel cage are plenty impactful even in a reserved role, helping to create an adventurous palette in total.
This New Balance 1906R colorway has started populating global NB sites, an indication that a US release shouldn’t be too far off. Once touched down, be prepared for the usual $155 MSRP.
